Having grown up in a true “modern family,” Emily is intimately acquainted with challenging family dynamics and understands how families, particularly children, will not only survive a divorce but can thrive afterward. Emily’s personal and professional experience enables her to understand a client's challenges and needs, help them achieve their goals, and ensure they are able to move forward following a divorce. She handles family law matters, including divorce, custody, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, and is often court-appointed to represent children in divorce cases.
As a trained mediator and certified collaborative divorce practitioner, Emily is adept at helping clients resolve their issues through alternative dispute resolution without the burden of costly divorce litigation. Emily is experienced at designing resolution-oriented processes that address each client’s and each family’s individual needs. However, when litigation is necessary, she is equally skilled in the courtroom.
Emily has considerable experience in financially complex and high-asset cases. She has represented other attorneys, business owners, and C-suite executives in family law cases, navigating the complexities of business valuation, income determination, and division of complex assets (e.g. stock options, deferred compensation, etc).
Emily is also a certified Parent Coordinator. In this role she is both chosen by parents and court-appointed to help parents make joint decisions regarding their children and to co-parent successfully both during and after the litigation process. Her parent coordination work gives Emily unique insight into post-divorce modification matters for her clients.
Emily remains up-to-date on the latest developments and best practices in family law through her involvement in local and state bar associations. She is a Barrister and Board Member of the Inns of Court of Montgomery County, and is a graduate of the Maryland State Bar Association Leadership Academy.
